OrthoGrace Dental
I have always had a fear of dentists because I am an extreme coffee drinker. Since I was younger (soda, but now coffee) dentists have made me feel bad about my teeth. From a very young age I have associated dentists with being judgemental. OrthoGrace has been the first dentist that has made me feel at ease and judgement-free. It is a family run office and everyone is VERY professional and welcoming. It is in a nice location with ample parking. I feel very comfortable there. They make scheduling flexible and easy. I highly recommend anyone scared of the dentist to try OrthoGrace, I hope they change your opinion like they have changed mine!

Periodontal Treatment

Many dental problems we see at OrthoGrace Dental are obvious because they directly impact your oral health and affect the appearance of your teeth. This includes decay, dental wear and damage, and root canal infection. However, gum disease is a condition that is not always obvious and can damage your oral health even before you know it exists.

Your gums play a vital role in your oral health – they hold your teeth in place. So if your gums are not healthy, your teeth are at risk. Without treatment, gum disease breaks down the bone and structures that support your tooth and eventually lead to tooth loss. Bone loss is irreversible, and once bone is lost, it’s lost for good.

Why Gum Disease Leads to Tooth Loss

Gum disease, or periodontal disease, is an infection that occurs when bacteria build up between your teeth and under the gums around your teeth. Improper oral hygiene is the primary cause of periodontal infections. The most common symptom is gums that bleed when you brush, but you may also notice inflammation, tenderness, or pain.

Gum disease is progressive, which means it won’t go away on its own and worsens the longer it goes untreated. Your gums will gradually start to recede and pull away from your teeth, leaving “pockets” between the tooth and gum. Without the support of healthy gums, your teeth start to feel loose, and gum disease that isn’t treated as soon as possible will eventually lead to loss of the tooth.

Treatment for Gum Disease

If we find that you have mild gum disease (gingivitis), a thorough cleaning by our skilled hygienists may be all that is needed to restore your gums to a healthy state

However, if we find signs of advanced gum disease (periodontitis), we will recommend a deep cleaning procedure called scaling and root planing. This treatment removes tartar and bacteria that accumulate in the periodontal pockets, then smoothes the root surfaces of your teeth where bacteria collect.

In some cases of advanced gum disease, a deep cleaning may not be enough to protect your smile. In this case, we will recommend gum surgery with our in-house periodontist. We understand you may have concerns about this procedure, but you can feel confident knowing that you will receive the highest standard of treatment here in our comfortableo office with people you know and trust.

Stop Gum Disease Before It Starts

Gum disease is common, but it is highly preventable. When you keep up with routine visits for exams and professional cleanings, you greatly reduce the chance of developing gum infection.

During every cleaning, your hygienist will check your teeth and gums for signs of infection. With early detection, we can control gum disease without surgery. When you pair your semi-annual visits with conscientious oral hygiene, you have the best chance of avoiding gum disease altogether.
