Children's Dentistry

It is very important to make sure your child has a healthy, positive start with their oral health care. We see children of all ages, and we like to start seeing them around age one or when their baby teeth start to appear.

You may wonder why we need to see kids at this young age. There are a couple of reasons for this:

First, we want to help kids get used to the idea of being in a dental office. There are a lot of new sights and sounds to take in, so we want them to have the time they need to adjust slowly. We also don’t want to wait to see them until they have a problem, because we don’t want them to associate visits to the dentist with pain.

It is also essential to monitor your child’s early dental development. Baby teeth play a critical role because they act as placeholders for the permanent teeth that will soon follow. When we see your child when their teeth start to appear, we can keep an eye on things and treat problems before they damage your child’s oral health. You can be confident that your child’s oral health is in the best possible hands. If it’s time to schedule your child’s first visit or you have questions, please call OrthoGrace Dental to arrange an appointment.

Cosmetic Dentistry

At OrthoGrace Dental, we only place tooth-colored (white) fillings, also called composite fillings. The material used for these fillings is made up of plastic and glass particles that produce an appearance similar to that of natural tooth enamel. We can also customize the material to match the color of your teeth and create a repair that is virtually invisible.

Silver fillings (amalgam) are made of a combination of metals, including mercury. They have been widely used for decades, but today many people are understandably concerned about having metal in their teeth. That is one reason why we don’t place any silver fillings at our Northridge dental office.

Another reason is that with composite fillings we only need to remove the damaged part of your tooth to create a long-lasting repair. It is always better for your long-term oral health to conserve the structure of your tooth for as long as we can.

Finally, the composite material can also be used for cosmetic dental bonding. This is a procedure where we use the material to fix chipped, cracked, or stained teeth to improve your appearance.

If you think you need a tooth filled or are interested in cosmetic bonding, please call OrthoGrace Dental to arrange an appointment.

Crowns & Bridges

We recommend a dental crown when a tooth is so damaged that a filling is no longer enough to support it. A crown is designed to fit around your tooth like a little helmet to protect it from further damage and allow you to eat and smile confidently again.

At OrthoGrace Dental, we offer several materials for dental crowns:

  • All-Metal – Crowns made using metals like gold are very durable and are appropriate for molars that withstand a lot of chewing force. They are also a good choice for people who grind their teeth.
  • Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) – PFM crowns are made with a metal base that is covered with a layer of tooth-colored porcelain. These crowns are also very durable and blend in beautifully with your smile.
  • Zirconia – These are the most popular type of crowns we offer because they provide so many advantages. Crowns made of zirconia not only withstand a lot of wear and tear, but they also have a translucent appearance that looks similar to natural teeth.

If you have a damaged tooth and think you may need a crown, please call our Northridge dental office. We will be happy to arrange an appointment with Dr. Medellin so he can evaluate your needs and make a recommendation that is most appropriate for you.

The answer depends on your age, the type of treatment you require, and the severity of your tooth misalignment. Fortunately, today we have access to a variety of orthodontic options that are designed to fit your unique needs.

Treatment with traditional bracket-and-wire braces takes about two years on average. These are often made of metal, but we can also use updated materials to provide tooth-colored ceramic braces that are less noticeable.

Most adults are just concerned with improving the appearance of their smile. In this case, we recommend Invisalign clear braces that can correct mild to moderate tooth misalignment. The average treatment time with Invisalign is about 12 months for adults.

We also offer invisible lingual braces that work like traditional braces but are placed on the tongue-side of your teeth, making them invisible when you smile. Since they work like traditional braces, treatment takes between one and three years. But the advantage is that no one has to know you are being treated!

Everyone has different needs, so the best way to find out how long your treatment will take is to arrange a consultation with Dr. Medellin at our Northridge dental office. He will be happy to talk to you about your goals and make recommendations to achieve a beautiful, straight smile.

Root Canals

A root canal is a procedure that is needed to relieve the pain of an infected tooth, and the truth is that a root canal procedure does not cause pain. We always make sure your mouth is completely numb before we begin the procedure so you won’t feel anything. Our team is also sensitive to your concerns and will do everything we can to support you and help you feel comfortable.

The root canal process is very straightforward. When we are sure you are comfortable, Dr. Medellin will access the inner part of your tooth by creating a tiny hole. Then he gently removes the infected material and fills and seals the tooth.

Depending on the tooth involved, we usually complete a root canal over one or two visits. Typically, we can finish the root canal during your first appointment, then have you return so we can add a crown to protect and strengthen the tooth.

We do everything we can to make your visit comfortable and stress-free by offering comforting amenities like warm blankets and pillows and TVs in every treatment room.

If you are in pain or have a tooth that is bothering you, please call OrthoGrace Dental to get the help you need.
